Vintage Precision Cosmet Optical Micro Mini-Lathe for Metal and Plastic (Rare). A single-speed micro-lathe designed for precision machining glass, plastic, and soft metal optical components. It features a two-axis slide with a dial indicator to accurately gauge depth of the cut. The material being turned is retained using the spring-loaded tailstock assembly. The headstock and tailstock both feature oil-impregnated bronze bushing bearings. Although best known for developing an intra-ocular lens for use as an artificial lens implant, they also produced equipment for machining precision optical components in-house. 7-1/4 H x 8 W x 8 D. One (1) Precision Cosmet Lathe (S/N: 511) w/2-axis slide and dial indicator. Two (2) HSS Cutters (installed). This is a heavy, bulky item that will require special packaging to ensure that it is undamaged upon arrival at the Buyers destination. 14 x 14 x 14. Used, excellent working order and outstanding cosmetic condition. The slide operates smoothly in both axes, with a fair amount of backlash in the radial axis. The motor, belt drive, and headstock all run smoothly. The spring-loaded tailstock rotates smoothly, but with some degree of resistance.
